Centromed UK is a UK based company dedicated to manufacturing products designed to improve the quality of life for the disabled and those undergoing rehabilitation.

Included in the Centromed range are Sequential Compression Therapy units - a treatment system utilising multi-chambered garments which sequentially inflate, creating a peristaltic massaging effect, facilitating movement and drainage of built up fluids and stimulating blood flow to tissues.

Simple and easy to use and working with peristaltic action gently massaging both comfortably and effectively not always having the need for hands on. The system comprises of a ten chambered garment with air filling each chamber in turn.

Varying pressure can be applied to the limbs according to the requirements of the condition being treated. Depending on the machine used a light massage can be achieved (ideal for varicose veins) using the 40 second cycle and 20mmhg pressure. Whilst the 60 second cycle deepens the massage. A 120 second cycle will push the fluid deep through the interstital spaces. Tissue fluid is pushed through the interstitial via the kidneys, surplus fluid is drained into the lymphatic vessels simultaneously. It is generally thought that his form of treatment accelerates blood flow. By applying pressure to the limb the brain reacts causing an increased number of enzymes to flow through the blood. Toxins are filtered through the nodes.

The Major, a sequential therapy unit frequently used in hospitals, has proved beneficial in the treatment of leg ulcers and a variety of other conditions.

Garments for use in the Sequential range include leg, arm and abdominal, all of which have inserts available separately to increase garment size. Leg and arm garments have a five or ten Chamber option.

The Macro is another sequential machine. It operates 3 garments at once enabling drainage of the abdominal simultaneously with the legs.

The Minor is a smaller portable unit it will operate one garment at a time offering a sensible choice for home use. The Minor machine has a fixed cycle time and a 1 hour timer.

The Micro and Micro Plus are also portable units. One offering a one 5 chamber garment treatment (Micro) and one offering two 5 chamber garments allowing two limbs to be treated simultaneously (Micro Plus).

With the introduction of Sequential Compression Therapy, patients can use these small, easy to use portable machines in their own home away from the hospital/clinic environment therefore restoring confidence in the end user. By applying gentle pressure onto limbs, blood flow will increase, the brain then reacts and causes more enzymes to flow through the body, giving patients a greater feeling of well-being.
